The framework to 2030

The Northern Territory Government is committed to growing a skilled, agile and capable workforce to meet business and community needs for now and in the future.

To achieve the government’s economic target of a $40 billion economy by 2030 the Territory will need to grow our workforce to 166,000.

The Northern Territory Government’s number one priority is jobs for Territorians and, retention of, a suitably skilled workforce. Vocational education and training is a driver to grow the workforce from 135,000 to 166,000.

Increasing our workforce also requires focus on targeting skilled and semi-skilled migrants to work in the Territory. The Global Worker Attraction campaign is designed to raise the profile of the Northern Territory as a preferred destination to live and work.

Growing the Territory’s workforce involves working with industry and partner training organisations and educational institutions at a local level to deliver programs and initiatives that will grow a strong Territory workforce.

Currently 134,000 employed; service industries, other industries, community and public services; 166,000 workers by 2030
