Savanne Canobie strongly encourages Territorians who are undergoing work training to enter this year’s NT Training Awards.

Last year, Savanne was named the 2021 Northern Territory Apprentice of the year and went on to be crowned the Australian Apprentice of the Year.

“The experience of meeting new people, sharing stories, and getting tips and tricks is something I will carry with me forever.”

The Rio Tinto electrical and instrumentation tradie says reaching the national awards was ‘amazing’.

“Being surrounded by so many incredible people that were so passionate about training and VET reinforced to me what a great system it is and how fortunate I was to be a part of it.

To be recognised for doing something that I really enjoy and being able to share my story, with the possibility that it could inspire others to go into a career that they want, is very rewarding.

The vocational and education system is one that I value and wish to promote, because I believe that it produces qualified people with the skills and knowledge that employers want in today’s industry.

Training is that important bridge between you and your chosen career. It guides you through what you need to know and gives you the experience and confidence to become competent in your field of work.

Becoming a tradesperson puts me in a position where I am able to give back to the system that trained me and has given me so much.”

Savanne was trained by Rio Tinto in her home town of Nhulunbuy.

“I was taught by some amazing tradespeople that had a massive impact on my training, which makes me the tradie I am today, and I really hope that I can be that person to someone else.”
